I had a desire to do some bike-camping. I did some research, including reading my friend Ben Massey’s guide to Golden Ears (recommended). I discovered that there was a backcountry site at Viewpoint Beach, which, unusually, was accessible by a designated “mountain bike” trail.

So, my friend Keith (funny story about my friends Keith…another time perhaps) heard the tale of my Drupal non-upgrade, and encouraged me to write it up.
Long ago, I set up Wired Cola as a blogger.com site, and it was fine. I even pointed wiredcola.com at it. Time passed, it seemed good to move it to my own Drupal site, hosted on a provider. And it was good. I configured the setup myself, back when Drupal 4 or 5 was current, and all was well.
Drupal has a principle, a reasonable one, that “the drop keeps moving,” which is their way of politely saying “stay current or die.”

I don’t know how to go on vacation without some really, really specific prompts. And this year, thanks to some family business my lovely bride had to take care of, I was on my own for six weeks. We’re in week six of this “vacation” and here’s a table of things done, and not done:
Did on Vacation | Didn’t on Vacation |
Spent a week negotiating a contract | Camping |
Attended a union meeting in Terrace | Personal development |
Rode bicycle 200 km in the dark | Swam at the beach |
Helped run a provincial championship bike race | Worked on my novel |
Dark Reboot
I backed myself into an unpleasant corner with some very tedious system administration stuff on Regular Wired Cola, so now we’re making Wired Cola: WiFi edition.
I’ve been avoiding writing blog posts because I’ve been avoiding the quite messy administrative nightmare of fixing a few years of technical debt.
That’s when I realized I could just do a one-click install, and hey! Maybe things don’t suck anymore.
